Health Plan Partners

March 16, 2020

Dear Health Plan partners:

Our priority during this coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is to support the safety and well- being of the patients and communities our providers serve.

We are closely monitoring the evolving situation in the U.S. as it relates to our providers, health plan patients, and the health plan partners we currently provide home-based primary care for. We are following the guidelines provided by the CDC, WHO and local and state health agencies to ensure the safety of our clinicians, providers, members, and patients across the country.

The majority of MHD’s home-based primary care population we serve are homebound, or home-limited, thus their risk for exposure to coronavirus is limited; they still may have been exposed to asymptomatic family members, or have had a recent ER visit and/or hospital admission which increases their risk for coronavirus exposure, however. The health and safety of our patients, their caregivers and providers we serve is our number one priority as it has always been. In this environment, we at MHD are taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of our patients and providers.

Now more than ever, home-based primary care for the most vulnerable populations we serve is preferable, particularly to avoid fuller than usual doctor’s offices and exposure to people coughing or exhibiting coronavirus symptoms at doctor’s offices, urgent care centers, and hospital ER departments.

Steps We Are Taking:

  • Providing CDC, WHO and local and state health agency resources to your members.

  • Screening questions prior to any home visit.

  • Repeat screening questions upon arrival for home visit.

  • As per updated CDC guidelines, MHD providers will contact their local/state health department immediately to notify them of patients with respiratory illness whom they suspect may have COVID-19.

  • Encourage the use of our CareNow® Telemedicine Program where appropriate to manage acute issues that can be resolved and to help flatten the curve. To learn more, download our latest e-brochure.
